decent accessory
Not as heavy duty as the metal plate that comes with the saw. But the zero clearance will prevent tearout when cutting plywood panels. One of these zero clearance inserts can also be used for a dado blade setup.

Way too flexible. Inaccurate and possibly dangerous.
I bought this insert because I needed to do smaller, thin cuts. That's why anyone would need a zero insert. The stock throat plate sucks (at least it's metal) because it's a wide open slot that the blade can pull thin bits into which will lead to violent kickback. I needed to cut window parts in the field, and didn't have the time to build a throat plate out of wood (which is fairly easy on most saws). This plastic trash was very flexible, leading to inaccurate depth of cut and potential to catch your part on the blade. It did at least fit and I'd say it'll make a fine template to make something safer.

Game changer!
The media could not be loaded. For the price, it's amazing. I really didn't feel like making one. As you can see it was very easy to do. Just make sure you make the proper adjustments with the screws so it fits properly. 😉

It would be easy for Skil to make this better.
This does work fine for me. I don't have any issues with the thin, very flexible part of the insert, mostly because I have been cutting panels and larger items that have not requierd the plate to be stiff and hold the piece in place an, but I do see the issues that could come about if I used it for more precise, smaller delicate cuts. The issue is that it would be so easy for Skil to make this a better product, with very little change. It would just need to be a little thinker or reinforced outside of the area the blade travels through.

Very flawed design
Very flimsy. Tried it because it was inexpensive but because there is no strengthening brace or support through the length, and it bows very easily, it is actually impossible to push something across the insert without it deflecting.

Fits perfectly.
A zero clearance insert is an absolute necessity for any table saw. This one is made to fit this specific saw and it fits better than any self fabricated insert I have ever made or seen. Some are pretty good and some are easier to fabricate than others but this factory made version is the best fit and the safest I have ever used.

Too flexible. Needs to be more solid
This would be a great tablesaw insert if it weren’t so flexible. It is made of a soft plastic and collapses when making your cuts making it less safe.

Don't make your own zero clearance insert.
I made several zero clearance inserts from plywood for different blades and dado sets. No more. This is so simple, fits perfectly, and the price is low enough it's not worth making my own.
