Woodstream Sonic Mole and Gopher Spikes

Second time trying to review. This company is advertising one product and sending you another. The product they send works okay but can be found for less money than the brand they are advertising.

I have purchase several sets of these over the years at different home with different soil compositions. I had a large yard at one home with topsoil over sand. Had a very bad mole problem and purchase 3 sets of twin packs. It was funny to see all the mole hills retreat and form a perfect circle around the mole spike! Proof the spike works. From the spike I obtain about a 40 foot radius in the top soil and sand composition. Deployment is key make sure there is a little overlap in the spikes theoretical radius. I am now at a home with clay soil in a more traditional subdivision, however, I am close to a wooded area with moles moving in on me. In the clay soil I find the spikes work a little better, giving me about a 55 foot radius from the spike.I find these far more effective than the solar powered ones. I water the soil where i planed to set the spike and used a rail road spike to punch the pilot hole. Make sure you pack the soil tight against the pilot hole to let the sound waives make full contact with the soil. Buying a little extra top soil from a store or taking it from a flower pot helps fill in any cracks.

I have read some of the negative reviews , and can't figure out what went wrong for them because I have had nothing but success with these. I started buying these nine years ago but my choice was just a metal tube. Now I can't find them at our Home Depot so ordered online. My old ones finally wore out. I had a gopher along the fence line and one out front so I put two in our back yard and one out in the front yard.. and I have seen no signs of the gopher. I just picked up two more and will plant them along some new shrubs I'm putting in just to keep them away. We had a rodent problem and I even put one inside my car and the nose kept the rodents out. When I got into my car I just loosened the cap to stop the sound. I have nothing but good things to say about my experience so it gets five stars from me! Ps. I leave mine slightly above ground so I can see it.

I just recently bought mine and one has been in the ground 3 days. I can't tell yet if anything positive has resulted yet. I will repost any news after a couple of weeks or so and let you know how things turned out. Instructions say it will take 7-14 days for rodents to move out. I did make a pilot hole with a long hollow pipe and then stuck the spike in. I then placed the spike and hammed it down with a rubber mallet to get it close to flush with the ground.Update: I can't tell if it's working or not. No new dirt mounds to indicate gophers are gone? I hope the spike is working. I only used one so far for testing purposes. The weather has turned cold so not sure if they hibernate?

Well I notice the front yard the mole holes are still on the edge of the grass but amazing the rest of the front yard is untouched we have 2 units in place. As for the backyard tons of mole holes with the 2 units in place.

I ordered two packages of the product to total 4 spikes. One was broken in the cap section. The spring was disconnected and I could not fix myself. The other three worked fine and time will tell if they are effective. I've heard they are. I had decided it would be too bothersome to return the one package as it contained two of the spikes despite only one in working order. I've usually been very satisfied with Amazon. I think the shipping back would not have been costly.

For the first time we have been invaded by burrowing critters. I panicked and rushed out to buy these samecstakes in town. Them really seemed to work. Just like an Army invasion they moved around the back and tried a sneak attack but I saw their move and got more. Since I have a hearing loss I only hear them if I am close but the other day my granddaughter was out with me and asked what the TERRIBLE noise was. I told her and she went inside ...Wow these really do work. Now if I could just figure out how to put them on my telephone and keep the stupid callers away.

They seem to do the job - not sure there is a definite way to prove they keep moles away but so far I have not seen any mole trails (On the other hand I am not sure my neighbors have any either - without using the spike) I would look at it as a possible prevention measure that is better than spending even more after the fact if a mole moves in
