Doom Patrol: The Complete First Season (DVD)

If you’re looking for a superhero show, I recommend “Titans”
The Doom Patrol is the DC streaming network’s show about an anti-hero band of misfits that are brought together thanks to a series of unfortunate events that have also endowed each of them with unique abilities. Throughout the 15-episode arc they each struggle to overcome their pasts and battle a common enemy (whom I won’t divulge here). The show spends a LOT of time on character development – perhaps too much. This overkill may have been for the sake of emotionally attaching viewers to the likeable characters to thereby have it return for many seasons. This is not likely. With only 15 episodes to the entire season, I thought that the writers went a little overboard setting up each individual character’s backstory…over and over again. We get that they have inner demons already. This is ultimately a super-hero show, but with very little action or demonstration of their meta-human abilities, it’s easy to lose interest quickly. After all, these are qualities that most people would actually watch a super-hero show for. I also didn’t care for the non-stop profanity. It just gets to the point where the constant F-bombs are gratuitous and do nothing to benefit the scripted dialogue. For me, the storyline is ultimately just too odd at times and went nowhere fast. There were a few episodes that were so bizarre (and boring) that I actually struggled to stay awake while watching them. You’ll see what I mean after the first few episodes, and things only get worse from there. I much preferred DC’s “Titans” series. That show at least has some cool fighting scenes and is action-packed enough to make it interesting. The writers should have saved the Cyborg character for that series instead. If you’re looking for a superhero show, I recommend “Titans” as your viewing destination.

NOT FOR A YOUNG AUDIENCE
I've only gone through a few episodes so far, but a heads up this program is not for the younger audience. Right off the bat, as the background on the characters is being developed, you have a smidge of nudity and sex, and a little male on male interaction. This is not a prevalent part of the show, but be aware they do have minimal screen time. What is consistent is the profanity in almost all of the dialog for a couple of the characters, which, for me, detracts from the performances. The special effects are amazing and I think the actors are exceptional in their roles. These are just the first few episodes and any show takes time to root, so I'm looking forward to future episodes so see how the show develops.

The Weirdest and Best Superhero show out there.
I'd seen a lot of Doom Patrol clips and wanted to finally get a look at the full episodes. Overall, this is not as wacky a show as you might think on first look. There are genuine moments of pain and heartbreak here, and a real sense of broken people trying to figure things out. That doesn't mean it's not weird, but it's not always crazy weird either. Still, the performances are amazing, and if you're tired of the normal superhero story, I highly recommend this.

"F" bombs galore, and lots of gay scenes
This seems to be written by two people. One a genius, and one an idiot. Some storylines were deep and well thought out, and others were just stupid. A lot of gay scenes with one of the characters, more than they needed for his story. I didn't even watch the last disc, it got very tedious. don't bother

Downer series
I read all the Doom Patrol comics in the 1960's when I was a kid. Really looked forward to watching this low-budget series. Just trash. Do not purchase, unless you really want to be depressed. Definitely an anti-superhero series. Along the depressing lines of the Watchmen comic and movie. If that is your schtick, then this is your movie. Cannot give it lower than 1 star, or I would have.

"Adult" language doesn't spoil this series, but it tries
These episodes pull from a lot of DC's history, like the "Titans" series does.. It's too bad some of the writers became obsessed with dropping f-bombs into the series by the shovelful. At least some of it is character-driven: Cliff Steele swears a lot and only some of Jane's personalities. I started speculating that maybe some of the actors complained about the language after Cliff says "What the hell?" in a later episode instead of the constant WTFs of earlier ones. The goofiest thing though is that after all the swearing in the episodes the gag reel bleeps all the swears, even covering the mouths of the characters with a Cliff Steele head-shot so lip readers wouldn't be offended? This is a weird place to develop a conscience.

SO. GOOD. Watch it now!
I started watching this show just for Brendan Fraser, but quickly came to LOVE this show! Great premise, interesting characters, crazy plots that keep you guessing. I feel like this show satisfies the same part of me that loves looking at Salvador Dali paintings. Fun, fanciful, gritty - it's so great. I can't recommend it enough.

Only watch if you have 2 and some one else as payed for it
The so called exciting new series is nothing more than a damp squib that takes a full season to explain how it was started but never got started and for Brendan Fraser all he seems to do is curse and keeps saying sorry for everything that he does so for me it's a 2* shows promise but does not deliver until the end of season?

Fabulous show, give it a go!
Arrived in good condition. I am not a huge DC fan but I am a fan of Brendan Fraser, so bought this on the off chance and I am so glad I did. What a show! Fabulous acting by all, very good casting, all the characters are unique and interesting it is hard to have a favourite. A lot of swearing, so if you get offended easily then may not be for you. Brendan is fabulous as usual and has a distinctive and recognisable voice to Robot man. A1 show, interesting story line. Also has the fabulous Timothy Dalton, another favourite. I would recommend this to anyone with a dry sense of humour.

Top superhero show
More violent, bloody than I was expecting, along with naked flesh and sex scenes, but remains very very funny. I loved the meta structure with the main villain narrating the story as part of the story, with twisty, turns plots and some plain weird turns. A very trippy showI’m looking forward to season 2

Never really got going...
For me, this series never really reached the potential it could have. The characters were a little pathetic, although that may have been the point, which was lost on me. And why do people with powers in these things always seem to drop the ball when using them? I don't want flawed and useless heroes, I want actual heroes in hero shows.Yep, I missed the point didn't I. Still watched the whole lot though.
