Tamiya TAM87179 87179 Masking Tape for Curves 5Mm, White

I used this tape to mask the curves on an antique treadle sewing machine stand in order to repaint the original gold decoration. This tape did about 50% of the job of following the curves. Long, easy outside curves were perfect. Tight inside curves were more difficult because there is flexibility to the 1/4" tape but no stretch at all. If you slightly stretch it to conform it loses adhesiveness. My project was large and masking was time consuming so I did the masking on day 1 and painting on day 2. The morning of day 2 I found all of the inside curves had let go and the tape seemed to have recovered from being stretched. I pressed the tape back into place immediately before painting and removed it immediately after painting.At this point in the saga I have to give the tape 5 stars and 100% approval. I was using a thinned down enamel mixture...mostly mineral spirits with a touch of gold enamel. Very thin. I figured it would seep under the tape edges and was prepared for failure, especially where it had been reapplied. The cast iron was hardly a fine, smooth base! Not one spot of bleed on the whole thing!!! The tape removed easily and left absolutely no residue. I was shocked and pleased.I really did not want to take away stars on adhesiveness but it's advertised for curves and the caveat is outside curves. If applied to inside curves you should paint immediately if possible. To those who think I'm being unfair just know that extensive research and testing was done before undertaking this project. This tape served it's purpose well and was the best of all types tried. I would buy it again unless something better is developed. The machine stand turned out beautifully.

Totally my fault for not reading the description. I wanted tape in wave shapes of differing sizes. This looked like exactly what I wanted in the photo. The description is accurate. Just posting in case any one else finds it by searching "wavy" painting tape.

I used this to tape-off a swooping pattern on two plastic models of Boeing demonstrator commercial aircraft. The tape was easy to apply, contoured nicely and held its position and didn't allow paint to bleed underneath. [There was a speck of paint bleed where the edge of the tape met the edge of a rain guide over a door on the fuselage, but I would not blame the tape for this.] Really great tape! I bought more of it in varying widths.

I needed some thinner tape for masking curves and this tape worked okay. I discovered better tape much cheaper and more of it.This will work in a pinch but they are expensive.

I use it for model building and it works very well

Perfect. Used it to mask off areas. Once wrapped the tape around a part of my model, and secured it tight, I was able to paint clean lines. There were no leak through at all.

I've used this tape before and it's great, but it's a kind of deceptive description. Yes, I should have read more closely; however, when the photo shows 3 rolls, and the description lists 3 sizes, AND there is no way to choose different sizes, one might believe they are receiving 3 rolls of this tape. This is not the case.

This tape works great for taping off models. It did a great job on my Guillow's Hawker Hurricane!

I wanted to airbrush reducing diameter concentric circles around a clear acrylic plastic sphere of 21cm diameter. Although this product is getting some attention for use in masking model kits to curves, I was not able to apply as required, as the tape could not hold the (fairly large) curve, and wrinkly on the smaller diameter side, making it unusable.

Did the job nicely without and paint seepage at all. Easily shaped around corners without much difficulty. Will certainly be very handy on my next rc build.

not what I wanted its advertised as wavy tape it's straight

Great product and just what I wanted and at a good price.

It's the right size but the tape doesn't stick very well and paint gets underneath the taped areas easily. Used it for 40k models and while it helped in the long rung I did end up having to do touch ups to masked areas due to paint running underneath it.
