The Roughest Draft

Very cool book, I laughed, I cried, I didn't like Chris.
I am an author besides being a reader, and I can totally understand Nathan and Katrina's feelings about why and what they write. It was fun reading 2 romance stories at the same time, one on the page, and one in real life, from his and hers perspectives. A very well written and fun to read book.

Well-Written, Light Read
Overall a good, light book to read with grounded characters. Having the story told in alternating timelines but in the same place also made it more interesting. Both characters were likeable and had a unique relationship with each other, but despite the good writing, I just wasn't fully invested for some reason. Still a good beach read for fans of "People We See on Vacation", "Beach Read" and Taylor Jenkins Reid books.

Amazon's Best Romance ??????
Roughest Draft was listed as an Amazon's Best Romance. To have a best romance, there must be a connection with both main characters. I never felt connected to either of them. Katrina couldn't figure out who she was. First she was bold reading her writing to a seminar....challenging Nathan to do the same. Then after later problems she ran away, refusing to speak to anyone and stopped writing. Sulking as if she was an immature teenager. She wouldn't even shop in a bookstore. Four long years went by and suddenly they discover they still owe their publisher another book. Did they not read their contract?Perhaps other authors might think passing papers back and forth to be examined and proof read, then passing computers back and forth, then standing over the other person to type on the computer is exciting but this casual reader did not. Nathan ran, Katrina sat in the sand on the beach, each thinking deep thoughts. Their friend, Maxine, was the only entertainment around. The conflict with Katrina's fiancee, Chris, was the most exciting few pages in the book but soon fizzled out.One of the my pet peeves in books, is a character asking a question and then 3-4-5 paragraphs later the answer is given. Then I must look back to the original question to figure out what the answer meant, breaking the flow. In this book the answer sometimes didn't go with the question.I forced myself to finish. I don't think I will buy another of Ms Wibberley's book without looking at all the reviews. I will certainly take Amazon's Best Romance with a grain of salt from now on.

Shattered my reading slump
This book. (Happy sigh.) I loved how this romance was a meeting of the minds as much as the hearts. I had been in a terrible reading slump before I picked it up and had started and not finished several books. When I started this, I found myself carrying my book around in my purse so I could sneak in more reading time when I had a few minutes. Reading in the grocery line? Yup. This book is so hard to put down!I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a wonderful, romantic read!

The swooniest and slowest of burns but amazing angst!
I went into this book with zero expectations because sometimes books hyped up on Booktok are complete flops for me. However, I was pleasantly surprised by this one! It’s unlike anything I’ve ever read before. The Roughest Draft is a book about two authors forced to come together to write one last best selling book together. After years of not communicating, one divorce, one engagement, and lots of infidelity rumors later, tension is high between Nathan and Katrina.P.S. did you know these two authors are actually married in real life?! That’s just like the icing on the cake. #couplegoalsI definitely recommend this book if you like:🌺Slow Burn🌺Dual POV / Dual Timeline🌺Second Chance Romance🌺Forced Proximity🌺Friends to Enemies to Lovers

The best of 2022
I’m in my early 40’s, work 40 hours a week, and go to school full time. There’s not much time left to escape into a good book. So, I put a small list together of Romance books I wanted to read during my holiday break. This one was at the top of that list. I read it in a day. It was almost like enjoying my favorite comfort food. The characters were so enjoyable, the dialogue fresh, and constant a reminder of what true chemistry looks like. Highly recommend.

2.5 Stars
This is one of the rare books where I feel like I do need the option of adding .5 stars to a review because, in actuality, this was a 2.5 for me. I don't know if the enemies to lovers trope is just really not for me or the men in these romance novels are actually somewhat toxic, but once I got halfway through this the appeal of Nathan's character had dissipated for me.The set-up is great, & I was solidly hooked for a full 50% of this book, but the more flashbacks we had to their previous "friendship" the more I was like "was this ever working out?" I really liked Katrina as a character, & I related to her struggles a lot, but I don't know if I was sold on Nathan as her perfect match. I know they were work partners & their disagreements were supposed to be a result of that, but I wasn't feeling the love that was supposed to be behind those arguments. It's possible that the romance genre just isn't for me (the only 2 that I've liked so far are People We Meet On Vacation & Red, White, & Royal Blue) but I'd love to see more genuinely kind male leads in the genre. I think the stoic, emotionally-distant male lead who can't express his feelings thing has been done to death & I'm frankly over it. There are more love stories to tell, & they don't all involve that character. All that being said, I would have given this 2.5 stars if I could. Definitely not unreadable, but if I'm not sold on your main couple in a romance novel then frankly I'm not sure why I'm here.

Literary Genius
one thing about this book is the plot really entices you because it doesn't reveal itself until later on in the book. The writing is honestly so beautiful, as well as the dialogue. I just wish the characters were a little more developed. It felt like the Main Male Character was developed pretty well but the rest were sort of left for our imagination.Overall, amazing book! I will for sure pick up another by these authors!!

Excelente

Easy and enjoyable read
I had high exceptions for this book and it did not disappoint. The plot is about Katrina and Nathan, famous co-authors, who decided to stop writing together four years ago for unknown reasons. However, because of the contract with their publishing company, they now have to meet each other again to write a new novel. The plot is set in Florida, which makes it a perfect summer read! This is a romance novel whose main focus is on the relationship of the characters and the way their writing and their personal life intertwine. This book made me smile all the way through and laugh oftentimes. It is a really cute romance, the chemistry of the characters is amazing. They understand and complete each other so well! They are still sad and emotional moments, as well as tension between the characters, but it makes the story even more real. Nathan and Katrina are relatable, especially in their struggles. However, I did find some downfalls to the story. I was expecting a huge reason for the two authors to not talk to each other and was a little disappointed, even though their points of view are valid and understandable. I did find the story a bit dragging, especially bait halfway through the book, but overall this book was very easy to read and I quite enjoyed the writing style. The two main characters were well developed, contrary to Chris, Katrina’s fiancé. Chris is depicted as a very unlikeable, egocentric and narcissistic character who is only driven by money and power, which, to me, was a little bit much. I however really enjoyed the fact that this story is a slow burn. Even if it is an « open door » romance novel, the intimacy did not take over the story, which I appreciated. Overall, this book was very enjoyable and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a summer romance to read!
