Strange things are going on in New York's sewers: four extraordinary turtles, mutated by the mysterious substance Ooze, have developed the Four Superpowers. Fortunately for everyone, Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo use their skills in ninja combat to hunt down criminals and make the city safer. As motivation is enough for our heroes their favorite dish: pizza in rough quantities! Only her master, the mutated rat Splinter and the TV reporter April O Neil know their identity. But the mystery of the superheroes is threatened... Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird drew the first comics on the four ninja turtles and the rat Ninjutsu in the 1980s. The whole thing was planned as a parody of other comics such as Ronin and Daredevil. The two illustrators self-published the comics and achieved so much success that they began to expand the world of turtles. One of the most successful comic series outside of the great Marvel comics was born. It was only a matter of time before broadcasters approached Eastman and Laird and negotiated a cartoon series. Throughout their heads, the gloomy, ironic and brutal comic series turned into a child-friendly animated series. This went so far that in England, for example, the word ninja could not even appear in the title and the series therefore had to be renamed Hero Turtles. Nevertheless, the series became a resounding success and so in 1990 even a feature film was produced, which was more oriented to comics and ensured many cinema visits. This was also the peak of the Turtles era and a lot of merchandising flooded the market. After the US TV channel " Nickelodeon" secured the rights to the franchise, a new feature film is planned for 2014 and a new CGI animated series will be available from 2012. But one thing is already certain: you can never catch the charm that this 1980-year series exudes again.
