Good product
Easy to assemble--though I wonder whether the 2 screws holding it together should be longer? The light is bright and pleasant. I don't stare directly into it, so it doesn't bother me like bright headlights.

Does actually work
I was worried when I read some of the reviews stating that the top falls down or that it doesn’t work properly because of the light settings - I ordered it anyway, and here’s the deal... mine functions properly, and it does actually work. I would not have bought into light therapy if my doctor did not tell me that she uses light therapy, and recommended it for me. Living in Wisconsin the “winter blues” are very common with or without anti-depressants. Yes, this light is very bright but part of the product description mentions the highest level of light output possible for a photo therapy. Yes, you can tone down the brightness for different settings-however, the difference is minimal. I assume this is normal because commonsense would tell you that photo therapy works by administering “light” therefore it must produce light (what you are paying for). I’ve only been using mine for one week and almost from day one I noticed an improvement in my morning mood. For example I don’t feel like going back to sleep right after I wake up. I truly doubt that this produces a UV light. My guess is that if you have irritation after using it you likely sat too close because it does produce a bit of heat. I would recommend this to anybody who feels the “winter blues” or could use a booster in their overall mood. Definitely worth the money!

This light box is amazing! -- Gold Standard!
It is solidly built and easy to use. It gives out great light for SAD therapy. I used to buy cheaper models, but don't waste your time. This one is excellent in every way! Absolutely perfect.

BRIGHT LIGHT, CLINICAL AESTHETIC, SOME CONCERNS
This is a very bright light with a very basic utility style. It has helped my mood and energy somewhat with consistent use. I have several autoimmune issues I am hoping this can help with. I have to use it for at least an hour to feel a noticeable difference in my day. I have two complaints about the light itself...1) the adjustor screw at the neck is permanently stuck. It arrived disassembled. When I assembled and adjusted the knob, “finger tight” it had insufficient holding power to keep the position. I had to really krank it down and it is now stuck. I have to adjust the light by actually moving the top of the light itself. No idea how long this will be effective before the joint fails.2) The power button is a VERY responsive touch sensor front and center on the base. This is good, except that I keep the lamp on my bedside table to help me wake up.... If I reach for phone, chapstick, water etc in the middle of the night and accidentally brush the lamp, my husband and I are startled awake by a blinding light. My fix is keeping a paper back book over the base so we don’t get blinded during our sleep cycle. This would be an issue when used on any surface as the slightest touch activates the light.VALUE: My husband is actually in lighting and I know basic value on lighting products. LED tech is getting cheaper and cheaper to produce. Also, I am unsure this would be an awesome value based on the two crucial design issues above. It is all plastic outside but must be weighted inside the base to offset the top. For the price I would hope for a more user friendly function and a more attractive look that would fit in with a traditional/homey design scheme rather than a clinic. For now, it has been otherwise reliable and helpful, but I will be shopping for better function and design.

I improved the positioning issue myself
**UPDATE 4 mos & still perfect: I use everyday 30-60 min as in my pics, base backward with lamp hanging over edge of end table 18" fr where I sit at sofa's end, I don't change the angle of the head just set it on floor next to my table after use. I stand happy with my hack of reversing the head to get closer to it.One thing I just discovered is I don't need to keep tapping the button to get it on and to its brightest there is a slight latency before the lamp responds to touch - Just touch & wait a second - took me 4 months but now I know the buttons are not badly designed I'm just insanely impatient. They are after all touch controls so yes there's no tactile feedback.-I am a believer at an hour per morning at approximately 18 inches from itSeems to be having an effect but it's not winter yet.Stupid the limited range of motion unable to raise to full vertical and the weight of the base opposite the lamp allows you to bring it to the edge of a nightstand table or sofa cushion in balance1 removed the positioning locking knob pushed on exposed threaded end of hinge pin pulling it out CAREFULLYGently moved it till the head barely moved enough for both sides to separate (DON'T PULL HARD THERE'S NO SLACK IN ELECTRICAL CORD INSIDE) Turned the head had to replace the toothed gear locking discs which fell out so note how they seat so they're like mine seen in my photos returned to the 4 teethed sides of the washers can meet to lock when you return them into place as I did then rocking the hinge pin back carefully flexing the now backwards facing lamp head to find just the minimum amount of flex in the interior cord to pass hinge pin thru then put the tension knob back and tightened in position.Works perfectly now straight up so it is angled straight where you aim it and the stand power pad actually seems more firmly weighted in place this way.To all those who's lamp head flopped - *You need to untighten the knob far enough to tilt head easily so the very shallow teeth in the washers don't strip and lose the edges and take care to position the head minding that the washer teeth are meeting enlocked b4 tightening the knob FIRMLY* so the head doesn't move. It's cheaply made from China consider it delicate don't jerk around with it letting the head bob around and it should last a cpl of yrs What do you expect for 40 bucksI only modified it after I decided that given the price I wouldn't cry if it broke in the 1st 6 mos of use "as-made" so I took a chance and GENTLY reconfigured it knowing I might void any warranty or chance to return but fully expected I might trash it and glad I did.The manufacturer should revisit design making the lamp head able to rotate 360-Degrees
